Q1. What were the aims (purpose) of the script & 9 key frames? 500 words

The aim of the script and nine key frames was to explore my hypothesis: 'the representation of strong and independent women in Hollywood films'. The film I made was influenced by the combined forces of The Hunger Games and Snowhite and the Huntsmen; the outcome was extremely in depth and set in a dystopian setting that was quite confusing yet elaborate to create for the nine key frames. The disruption I created portrayed the event of which changed the girl's perspective on life; she went in for testing with all the other girls of age and found she was one of the unlucky infertile ones, but what she discovered was that they wanted to sedate her- the rumours about girls being abducted to never be seen again came true in front of her eyes. The reason I dressed the actress in the stereotypical feminine way was so that it would convey her naivety and innocence in the world and that she had not yet been exposed to the harsh reality- I made sure she was wearing black because it foreshadowed the independent, rebellious, righteous woman she was about to become by the end of the scene; by challenging the hollywood stereotype I showed that when she was in a situation of survival or slavery, that she would have an inner instinct that would help her escape the clutches of the government's secret weapon; and also by the fact that she would be the one to save her brother from the same fate.

Q2. What codes and conventions (genre, character & narrative threads, how films use mise-en-scene, camera & sound to create meaning), identified in the textual analysis essay were used in thescript & 9 key frames? 500 words

I broke the codes and conventions of a dystopian theme as in current films they are introduced to be pristine, technologically warped worlds, so I made my dystopian future look dilapidated and as though we had lost a lot of what we have now to convey the message that humankind are not bettering themselves. I continued the convention of the strong independent female character into my own film so as to incorporate a juxtaposition to the Hollywood convention. However, as the disruption scene I chose to script for was her change from being enslaved under the lies of the government to a woman that fought back, meant that within the nine key frames she was wearing the stereotypical costume of a feminine dress but I used the colour black to convey and foreshadow how she would not be innocent and subservient for much longer. The reason I dressed her to look traditionally feminine was due to the fact that this was the stage in the plot where she is still under the rule and impression of the government, and therefore has not broken out of the stereotype yet and become independent. Furthermore, to create the scene for the photos I used photoshop to layer the actors and actresses on top of the background photo by using a crop tool so that I was able to display the idea of the hospital location. This was so the location would fit the storyline of men being tested for genetic defect and women being tested for their fertility

Q3. How was the location report used in the construction of the 9 key frames? 500 words
Explain the connections, how scouting & reporting for locations was used to create the 9 key frames or revisions to the script, what influences did it have on your ideas for the script or vice versa?

Based upon the script I made, it then led to the exploration for my location report. As I wanted a hospital location I had to look for white hallways, which I found in Longfield Academy and a nurse room within The Leigh Academy as it was the only possible guaranteed place to complete this task. Once I had found the rooms and hallways, that was the vital part of the key frames out of the way meaning I then just had to find the actors and actresses willing to participate. The final location I wanted for my last frame was a field, so I decided to use the field in The Leigh Academy as it was easily accessible during school hours meaning it was guaranteed that I would be able to complete this frame efficiently. However, props was also needed in one of the key frames to convey the dystopian theme to my storyline, to do this I embedded an image of a monitor onto the wall in the nurse's room photo where the actress is laying down on the bed- it had rhetorical questions on the screen appointing the genetic defect of men and the fertility of women which emphasised the main problems people have to face in this futuristic setting.

Q4. How successful was the script 9 key frames in achieving the aims (its purpose)? 500 words

I think my script was successful as it portrayed the injustice of this dystopian world and the affect it had on women of their age; it illustrated the transformation from being under the veil of lies and then to be exposed to the harsh reality of which the female protagonist would become independent and fight back for the rights of their freedom which would then conclusively oppose the stereotypes of the traditional feminine woman and how they always need a man to protect them, that Hollywood creates. The reason I chose the actress for my nine key frames was because, she looked like the stereotypical 'blond beauty' that Hollywood would usually use which would therefore metaphorically convey the lies of which shrouded her vision.

  1. Q1 "However, the nine key frames I chose to shoot explained the script like a storyboard as there was not much to the scene but I made sure it conveyed the emotions and the storyline in a whole. " YOU NEED TO SET OUT YOUR AIM BASED ON THE CONCLUSION OF YOUR STUDY - THE REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN? WHAT ASPECT OF THIS ARE YOU CREATIVELY EXPLORING: ISN'T IT ABOUT CHALLENGING FEMALE STEREOTYPES? EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT/SET UP IN YOUR NARRATIVE - THE TESTING ON MEN & THE ENFORCED PREGNANCY OF WOMEN

Q2. GOOD - "to create the scene for the photos I used photoshop to layer the actor on top of the background photo by using a crop tool." WHY A HOSPITAL? THE PREGNANCY ASPECT? WHY CAST HAYLEY AS YOUR ACTRESS - WHAT MESSAGES ARE YOU SENDING OUT ABOUT INDEPENDENT WOMEN USING HER AND THE WAY SHE LOOKS IN YOUR 9 KEY FRAMES - BLACK DRESS ETC, BLONDE HAIR, MAKE UP?

    Q3. NEED TO ELABORATE -
"The location report was an exploration based upon my script. " - OTHER WAY AROUND, IT ASSUMES YOU DID THE LOCATION REPORT FIRST AND THEN THE SCRIPT. WHAT ABOUT THE CORRIDORS (LONGFIELD), WHAT ABOUT THE FIELD SHE RUNS INTO? THE USE OF PROPS TO DRESS THE SET (USING THE MONITORS ETC)

Q4. "However, I think if I were able to get the costume and location I wanted and pictured mentally for my nine key frames, it would have appeared more effectively." - YOU MUST ELABORATE - WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY AND WHY - SHOW YOUR UNDERSTANDING BY BACKING IT UP WITH SOLUTIONS. HOW IS THE COSTUME SHOWING INDEPENDENCE YOU WERE EXPLORING ETC.

"portrayed the dystopian world with the problems and experiments that happened when they got to a certain age" - BE CAREFUL - YOUR MACRO WAS NOT GENRE IT WAS REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN: SO EXPLAIN WHY YOUR SCRIPT WAS SUCCESSFUL IN EXPLORING THIS THROUGH THE NARRATIVE IDEA IN THE SCENE. WHY CAST HAYLEY AS YOUR ACTRESS?
